Festival by the Lake in Wakefield

Despite the unpredictable weather, we had an amazing time at Wakefield's Festival by the Lake on Saturday, June 10, 2023.  The Festival by the Lake is always a great opportunity to connect with our supporters, educate visitors about our organization and make connections in the community. This year we were fortunate to have four local authors as guests in our tent available to talk to, purchase books from and to have books signed. Local author essayist and TRtW's Coordinator for Senior & Veterans Programming Linda Malcom joined us to start the day at 10am with her collection of essays, Cornfields to Codfish . A Successful and Very Fun Youth Literacy Event!

We had so much fun bringing back our Young Writers and Illustrators Meet, Greet & Create event from its post-pandemic hibernation on Tuesday, March 12th at the Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield.  The authors who participated were,  in alphabetical order, are: Janet Costa Bates ( Rica Baptista: Llamas, Iguanas, and My Very Best Friend ), Rebecca Caprara ( Spin ), Carol Gordon Ekster ( Trucker Kid ), Betsy Ellor ( My Dog is  NOT  a Scientist ), Fred Gracely ( Misfit’s Magic ), Samantha Lewis ( Nature Activity Book for Little Ones ), Kari Percival ( How to Say Hello to a Worm ), Shawn M. A Note From  The Room to Write's Coordinator of Senior & Veteran Programming: Linda Malcolm "I have thought about this a lot and wanted to let you know that I’ve decided to step down at the end of this program year (this May) as Coordinator of Senior & Veteran programming.   "I can feel a change in seasons. My parents are aging, and now, with both of our sons in college, I will be going back to Iowa to see my parents more often. Plus, there’s also the fact that my husband and I are enjoying the freedom of traveling!   "To watch so many of you find your writing voice or expand on it in our senior & veteran workshops has been a privilege.
