100 Free Books for Youth from 12 Local Authors: March 12th!

Join us Tuesday, March 12th 6-8:30pm at 467 Main Street, Wakefield!

I cannot tell you how excited we are at The Room to Write to shake the dust off of our Young Writers and Illustrators Meet, Greet & Create event and bring it back from its post-pandemic hibernation. The last time this event was supposed to happen was in March of 2020--and we all know what happened to events planned for that month. But, we reimagined the event as a drive-thru so we could get free books into the hands of young readers and we're doing it again this year.

If you'd like to see more about that fun event, during a very unfun time period, and meet some of the authors who were involved with it, check out this video: The Room to Write Book Bonanza 2020 - YouTube

After four years, we are eager to welcome TWELVE local authors and give away 100 BOOKS for FREE to all ages, preschool to high school, thanks to an Employee Vibrant Community Grant from Corning Incorporated and in collaboration with Whitelam Books in Reading. We will be giving away picture books, early reader/chapter books, middle grade novels and young adult novels (including one graphic novel:)! See the full list of authors and books on our events page.

This event is being held in space provided by our community partner: Boys & Girls Club of Wakefield located at 467 Main St, Wakefield, MA. The wonderfully creative Follow Your Art Community Studios in Melrose, MA will be leading young people in an artsy activity.

Participants can go on a scavenger hunt, try out our typewriters (always a fan favorite:), enjoy a hot cup of cocoa, nibble on some sweet treats, make art, and get to know several talented authors along the way. Oh--and they leave with a book signed by the author--for FREE!

Kids, parents of kids, grandparents and caregivers of kids--be sure to join us for this wonderful way to inspire a love for literacy at any age. When kids make that connection between the books they read and the human beings who created them--a spark goes off! It's special.

We look forward to celebrating words and creativity in community on Tuesday, March 12th!

Help us spread the word and ensure that every book finds a young reader to go home with:)
