Seniors & Veterans Fall Programming


Wakefield Senior Center:

October 3rd: Kick-off for a new session, "Writing Talk.” This month, a TRtW instructor will lead a chat about “What Writing Is,” a five-page chapter from Stephen King's book, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft.

Also, if you enjoy this chapter and want to read the whole book, consider joining Whitelam Books on Thursday, October 26th at 7 pm for Writer’s Book Club. The group will be discussing King’s book this evening. 

October 10th: Gather & Write session led by an instructor from TRtW. Come with your own ideas of what to write or be inspired by prompts provided by facilitators from The Room to Write.  You'll have time to write, as well as an opportunity to share your writing.
October 17th: "Open Mic" session where each person will have about 3 minutes to share something they've written or read.
October 24th: Gather & Write session led by an instructor from TRtW.
October 31st: Monthly Critique Group where writers will read their writing to the group and receive verbal feedback. (Please read over TRtW Critique Guidelines before attending this session.)
November 7th will be a "Writing Talk," where an instructor from TRtW will lead a chat about an article, blog post, or chapter from a book related to writing. (Contact Linda Macolm for details, see contact info below.) 
November 14th, guest speaker David Watts, Jr. will present Fountain Pens & Writing Culture.  David takes a look into the history of fountain pens, users, and the importance of promoting cursive writing to the younger generations. 
November 21st will be a Gather & Write session led by an instructor from TRtW.
November 28th will be the monthly Critique Group session where writers will read their writing to the group and receive verbal feedback. (Please read over TRtW Critique Guidelines before attending this session.)

Stoneham Senior Center:

Get your thoughts, memories, stories, histories, and personal experiences down on paper!  Held every Tuesday in October, these workshops are approachable for those hesitant to write and fulfilling for those wanting to grow in their writing experience. 
October 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, and 31st from 10:30 – 11:30: Participants will be guided in workshops where they will experiment with poetry, memoir, and fiction. 
November 7th, 21st, and 28th: “Gather & Write” sessions will be held. Come with your own ideas of what to write or be inspired by prompts provided by facilitators from The Room to Write.  You'll have time to write, as well as an opportunity to share your writing.
