TRtW's New Website is FREE for you to visit!

The Room to Write's website has a new look. As with a new hair cut or an updated wardrobe--it may take a while for all of us to get used to it. But, this decision was easy to make because we had no choice. Ha! It's always good to change things up a bit and since it's been five years, it was time.

Much of the content remains the same (most likely) but is formatted differently. Some of the buttons are not working properly yet, but we are working on those. And, since we have recently received new subscribers to our newsletter and generous donations from supporters like YOU we are grateful to know that you have been patient, still managing to find a way to get through to us.

We appreciate your patience!

In the coming months we will iron out the webpages. One area in particular that did not transition well was the Events category. In order to improve mobile viewing, content and photos were shoved into boxes and columns that don't always suit them, so we will be shifting things around and hopefully you will see improvements. Aesthetics are not synonymous with automation.

Another big change is that the new website format does not support blogging or "announcement" style posting. Big bummer, since writing is kind of our thing. So, instead of everything on one website we have had to get creative, but since creativity and problem solving comes naturally to us here at TRtW we think we have created an efficient work-around by utilizing Google's Blogger or Blogspot (we've seen it referred to by both names) for our blog updates and postings. Archived blog entries can still be found in their transitioned format, which consists of links to each entry individually.

Blogger is a bare-bones type of blogging platform and being a nonprofit we especially appreciate that it is a FREE service. So, our FREE google website (thanks to TechSoup) + our FREE google blogsite = $0. In this day and age a lot of money has the potential to be funneled off the top of nonprofits and small businesses simply to support the virtual side of doing business, but we are happy to let our supporters know that we have found a way to maximize your donated dollars and put as much of it toward fulfilling our mission as possible with minimal overhead costs.

Creating and maintaining a website on a DIY basis requires many volunteer hours and can have its limitations, but with our focus on in-person programming and dealing mostly in simple, text-based content we are satisfied with basic but functional bells and whistles. That being said--please visit our newly updated site and let us know about anything that doesn't look right from your screen or any buttons that aren't functioning.

Cut and paste the link at the top of the page you are viewing and email us a quick description of what you're seeing that is decidedly wonky or malfunctioning. We are pleased to have this somewhat major project nearly behind us so we can focus more fully on future programming and plans.

Thank again for your patience and we appreciate your help!
